University of Malaya

Universiti Malaya, or UM, Malaysia?s oldest university, is situated on a 750 acre (309 hectare) campus in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It was established in April 1949 in Singapore with the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine (founded in 1905) and Raffles College (founded in 1928).The University of Malaya derives its name from the term 'Malaya' as the country was then known. The Carr-Saunders Commission, which recommended the setting up of the university, noted in its Report in 1948: "The University of Malaya would provide for the first time a common centre where varieties of race, religion and economic interest could mingle in joint endeavour ... Southern College

Tun Abdul Razak University

The idea for the establishment of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak was mooted by Y.Bhg. Datuk Hassan Harun, the former chairman of KUB Malaysia Berhad, who had strong interest and vast experience in the field of education. He started off with Maktab Adabi, which he formed in 1969 with several partners. And he continued to work on his vision for a bumiputra-owned private university. With the advent of the IT age, Datuk Hassan incorporated the idea of an IT-based learning environment, and his concept paper was presented to the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Y.A.B. Tun Mahathir Mohamad, in 1996. After deliberating on the proposal, the Prime Minister gave his blessing, and the proposal was then presented to YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, who was the Minister of Education at that time.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

The Establishment of UTAR began with the story of Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (KTAR). In 1964 the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) mooted the idea of setting up a college which was subsequently named after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. On 15 September 1972 , YAB Dato' Hussein Onn, the then Minister of Education handed over the Instrument of Government to the College. A 191-acre piece of land in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur was allocated for the construction of the KTAR Campus. Today, KTAR has an enrolment of about 33,000 students taking 110 courses spread over six campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah.
